01Roofs in Clevedon

Clevedon is a town of two halves as far as roofs are concerned. Above the seafront there are Victorian and Edwardian villas with steep, tall roof spaces; on the flatter ground inland there are rows of interwar and post-war bungalows and chalet bungalows with wide, shallow roofs over a large footprint.
Both convert well, for different reasons. The older houses usually have the ridge height already; the bungalows have the floor area, and often need a dormer or a roof alteration to turn that area into usable head height.
Rear and side extensions here run from single-storey kitchen-diners on the estates to more careful work behind period houses, where matching materials and getting the roof junction right matters as much as the structure.
