Most of Nailsea was built in a hurry between the 1960s and the 1980s, when the town expanded around the old village centre. That means a lot of houses of a similar age: estate semis and detached houses with trussed roofs, and generous gardens behind them.
Those roofs are often shallow-pitched, so head height is the first thing to look at. Where there is not enough, a dormer or a roof alteration is what turns a storage loft into a room — and the flat plots make a ground-floor extension straightforward to build alongside.
